Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask questions about your background, what’s bringing you to therapy, and what you hope to gain from our work together. Together we will talk about what will make therapy a meaningful and positive experience for you. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask me anything. There’s no pressure to come prepared with any specific answers — it’s always my role to guide us as needed.

  • Getting started is simple. Reach out through the contact form on this website or email me at therapy@alexandrapaulcounselng.com. I’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

  • Most clients find that meeting weekly or biweekly at least at the start provides the consistency needed for meaningful progress. This frequency also allows us to establish a strong therapeutic relationship — the goal is for you to gain trust and comfortability, and I can get to know you which helps me to best anticipate your needs and preferences for each session.

However, we can absolutely decide together what frequency feels right for you based on your goals, needs, and availability.

  • Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. If you're looking for longer sessions or a different format, we can absolutely discuss what might best support your needs.

Reach out to inquire about sessions that are apart of the trauma healing and grief counseling pathways.

  • My standard rate is $200 for 50 minute individual therapy and $250 for couples/families. Trauma and grief counseling pathway sessions are $250 / 60 minutes.

I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need. Please feel free to reach out if cost is a concern, accessibility matters to me!

  • I accept all major credit cards. You are also welcome to use your HSA/FSA to pay for sessions.

  • I offer virtual therapy throughout California via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Emerging research has shown virtual therapy to be just as effective as in person therapy. My clients are often surprised at how similar virtual therapy feels to in-person therapy. If virtual therapy is something you feel hesitant about, I encourage you to give it a try :)
